Cancun Travel Guide 2025: Best Resorts, Beaches, and Hidden Deals

Everything you need to plan an unforgettable Cancun vacation - without overpaying for it.
Why Cancun Still Delivers
Turquoise water so clear you can see your toes in chest-deep surf. White sand that squeaks when you walk on it. Resorts where "all-inclusive" actually means something. That's Cancun.
There's a reason it's been the top Mexican beach destination for Americans for decades. Direct flights from most major cities. World-class resorts. Reliable infrastructure. And dollar-for-dollar value that's hard to beat.
But here's what most travel guides skip: the difference between an average Cancun trip and an incredible one comes down to timing, location, and how much you pay for it. This guide covers all three.
Quick Facts
- Best time to visit: December - April (dry season)
- Shoulder season sweet spot: May and November
- Average high temperature: 84°F (29°C) year-round
- Flight time from NYC: 3.5 hours
- Currency: Mexican Peso (USD widely accepted)
When to Go
Timing matters more than most travelers realize.
Peak Season (December - April)
Near-perfect weather. Warm days, cool evenings, minimal rain. This is when everyone goes - Americans escaping winter, spring breakers, holiday travelers. Prices are highest. Book 3-4 months in advance.
Shoulder Season (May & November)
The sweet spot. May catches the tail end of dry season. November is after hurricane season but before winter crowds. Prices drop 20-30% from peak. Weather is still excellent. Pro tip: November is underrated. Hurricane season officially ends November 30, but storms are rare by then.
Off-Season (June - October)
Hot and humid. Afternoon rain showers are common. Hurricane season peaks August-October. Prices are lowest - but there's a reason. If you go, choose a resort with strong indoor amenities and buy travel insurance.
